Replacing Kitchen Flooring

Hi, we have an 11 yr. old Fleetwood that was previously owned. Someone covered the original factory vinyl with another color sheet vinyl that is now old & cracking & we want to replace with 12X 12 Armstrong vinyl tiles, but as we started to pull up the old to see what was under it we see that 'they' cut into the original flooring 1/4 inch all around. My question is do we have to buy the leveler/embosser patch to cover the cuts? And in the laundry area the glue there is really still really sticky but it is not in all the other areas of the kitchen so I believe this was a different kind of glue, must we remove all the glue, even the dried non tacky?

The best method I have seen is to overlay the old stuff with smooth faced quarter inch plywood sheeting. It comes in 4x8 foot sheets and will give you a brand new smooth sub-floor install the new tiles on. We use a brad gun to install the plywood sheets and try to butt them tightly together to avoid seams. You can use leveler to smooth any irregularities between the sheets. Running large amounts of some levelers directly under some vinyls can result in bleed through after a very few years that totally spoils the look of the vinyl. Ask they folks you purchase the tile from what works best under their products

Update, we put the Armstrong vinyl tiles right over the original linoleum & it

came out perfect....the secret is to do a through cleaning & prep the floor, we

found many odd things, like a nail pounded right in the middle of the floor &

numerous long nails all around the edges...we removed everything & patched the

walls before starting to limit messing up the new floor....It was allot of


work, but for $300 I have a new floor & I have a big kitchen...20'X 11"

...Going to use the 2 1/2 inch vinyl molding for baseboard under cabinets

& regular wood molding for the walls....
