yellowed bathtub

I have a nine year old manufactured home. One of the once white bathtubs has turned yellow. I've seen the same thing in the homes of two other people. In fact, I've had two plastic products that turned yellow with age. How common is this? The tub is pretty unattractive but I don't want to have to replace it. I don't use it at all and would consider applying a paint like product to restore the white color. Is that possible? Any ideas? Thanks.

I'm not sure why the tubs turn yellow. I don't know how to spiffy them up, but I'm all ears if someone else does.

I am not totally sure how to correct the problem...but from what I have seen it is from a high sulfur content in the water...If you change the tubs..a whole house water filter might solve the problem in the future...

your problem sounds like iron staining from well water .what i use for my tub is snobol it is a toilet bowl cleaner for rust and hard water it works wonderfully .but be sure to use rubber gloves.it is a little rough on the skin.and make sure the room is well ventalated .hope this helps

If it's only one of the tubs, I assume you have two from your comment, I doubt it's the water. I would think it's because you don't use it that much it's something in the pipes.

Or that bathroom gets more natural light than the other. UV rays tend to turn plastic stuff yellow. Some kind of UV blocking film on the window will help slow the process. Look at the outside (even the inside) of a used RV. All the plastic vents and things will be yellow compared to new which is nice and white. I don't know of any cleaner that will get rid of the yellow. It's the nature of the beast.

i found a website you can buy something for it. if it is fiberglass, not plastic. its hard to tell the difference sometimes though
