"On double wides, you can not open the marraige wall. you are asking for trouble."

But why and what sort of trouble? Couldn't a section of these walls be replaced by a header beam or some sort of support post, etc? And could the shear not be added or reinforced elsewhere?
I want to take out the interior kitchen wall that separates it from the LR. I could leave the 3' section of wall behind the refrigerator, have an opening of around 6' or so carried by a header and then another 3' of wall - why wouldn't that work???
