Replacing all doors

Post by Karen » Mon Jul 11, 2005 10:30 am

I am wondering why there are 3 hinges on each of my existing doors? In a regular house there are only 2, is there something I should know about MH door frames?
I have already purchased 7 raised panel doors to replace the plain flat ones that are here & before I proceed to have them hung would like to know what to expect?
My home is a 95 Fleetwood if that gives anyone a clue....
TIA

Hinges are basically graded by the amount of wieght they can support. If you notice on the doors with only two hinges the hinges are thicker the hinge pins are a bigger diameter and are usually removable. Most M/H have a thinner what is referred to as hidden hinge. Due to the design the hidden hinge can't support as much wieght so an extra hinge is required. I would suggest if your new doors are heavier replacing your hinges with ones that are rated for more wieght ( check lowes or home depot) that way you can prevent eventual sagging and misalignment.

Don't forget to support both the hinge and the latch side of all of your entrance doors and any openings over 48" also under the perimeter of the home. Either block them or use the adjustable outriggers or jacks if the home mfg allows for it.

All of the hinges in the world will not do you any good if you don't support the studs the door is attached to.
