Warranty on Shingles

Post by Michelle » Tue Oct 26, 2004 11:14 pm

We are buying a 1993 Schult on contract. I was told by the original owner that there was a 20 year warranty on the Shingles. I was wondering if anyone knows if that warranty is transferred to us. I need to chase up the original paperwork but Schult told me today that the warranty is probably not transferrable as we are not the original owers. Does anyone know about this? Thanks for your help in advance.

That shingle warranty is about half bogus anyway. If they did wear out prematurely, you'd go a prorated payment on the shingles only -- no labor included. So let's say your home is a 28x56 and you needed to replace your shingles at 15 years. You would need just over 15 square of shingles, or 45 bundles. Each bundle we'll say costs around $7.00 for a total of $315. Since you've already gotten 15 years use out of it, they would deduct at least 75%, which would give you $79. Then you'd still have to supply roofing paper, tar, nails and labor. So for $79, it's not worth spending much time trying to locate the warranty.

This is funny, this post was on three different boards, and three people replied, all with the same answer!
