Support and tie downs location

Post by Jim G » Sun Aug 22, 2004 9:47 am

I have been given a Parkwood home that is late 70's or early 80,s 12x53 I need to know how many block supports, tie downs, and there location along the beam I will need
It's not being used at the present time and is only on the wheels and temporary blocks at the corners
Any info you can provide would be helpful

When you block your home, put a block set at the end of each beam. Then a block set every 8' or so along the beam.

The number of anchors is another mystery. HUD and some insurance companies may require an anchor every 10 feet. Everyone else would probably be more than happy with 6 anchors.

If you live in an area prone to earth quakes or hurricanes, then its a whole different ballgame.

since it is a 12 wide, this home is most likely 1972, or older. It is not hud approved. Because of that, there is no real standard for anchor placement. i agree with blocking every 8 feet. This is more than what would have originally been required, butt it will make the home feel more substantial and stable. i would anchor every 8 feet also.

You got good advice above, in addition to blocking every 8', make sure your piers sit on proper sized footings, protected from frost heave, typically your footings would need to be about 20-24" round or 20" square.
