Replacing existing exterior doors

Post by Becky » Thu Jul 08, 2004 5:57 pm

Hello,

I just purchases a forclosed MH in Florida. It's a 200 Skyline. I am insistant on not making it look like a "mobile home" because of the way it is situated on the lot. I was wondering if I can replace the doors with just any doors. Meaning, could I go to the local home improvement store and buy an exterior door that fits the dimensions with like a 9-pane window? Or, do I have to go through the manufacturer??

Also, what is the best way to take down the strips in between the seems where the wallboards meet? I want to rip them off and fill them in with plaster to be able to paint or wallpaper.

And one last question, if I wanted to put molding around the windows, doors, and at the baseboard, can I do that??

It is the first home that I am buying and since I bought it off a repo, I want to make sure that in a few years I can re-sell it to another family to start in. If anyone could answer my questions, I would appreciate it!!

Thank-you all!!

Tom

The doors are not standard sized. Your options are, replace it with basically the same type/style of door from your local MH parts and supply store(Expensive). Special order a door from Lowes/HomeDepot, etc. Buy a door that fits the width and cut down the length. Last option is to extend your door opening to fit a standard door.

Prying off the strips will usually work, it may be glued or stapled.

Your not confined about doing decorating like moulding etc. If you can make it fit, it will work. Tom
