I have a 1998 Commodore 55 x 14 home and need to remove the electrical box for the ceiling light in the main bedroom. The electrical box is located exactly at the peak of the ceiling. I'm not exactly sure just how the box is secured in it's current position (nailed to a roof truss, secured by some type of expansion devise ?????)
Does anyone out there have any experience in removing such a box? If so, I need the exact procedure to minimoze damage to the adjacent ceiling drywall material. I need to remove the box in order to install an expandable brace system for a ceiling fan.
Your assistance in this matter is appreciated.
Thanks.
Tim
Electrical Box Removal
Re: Electrical Box Removal
tim , when you take the light fixture down , look straight up in the box, there should be 1 or 2 screws take those out ,and the box should come out, and then there will be a metal piece about 2 inches wide shaped kind of like a "W" that you will need to get out,(not attached to anything )
if the screws aren't there then this is a "nail in box" and it's nailed to a truss from the upper side of the ceiling, you will tear up the ceiling getting this type box out..
NOTE: turn off power before you start.
Take Care!
