Nasty water smell (well)
Re: Nasty water smell (well)
As recently as May of 2003 I had occasions to replace some of the white plastic supply valves, with the push/pull type valve built in, with compression valves and metal supply tubes. There was something about the plastic one that seemed to make them a breeding haven for a bacteria that produced the sulfer smell. Most commonly on hot water side but also periodically on cold side. The best indicater that this might be helpful is if there are some outlets in the house that do not have the odor and others that do. In that case I generally started by replaceing supply tubes. If you can smell it at the well you will likely need to treat it with chlorine with some frequency, or need an elaborate whole house filtering system.
