What are the general guidelines of checking to see if the home is level etc.
I know about the swing of doors etc. but what are some other things that need to be checked on the final walk through?

Leveling your home!
Re: Leveling your home!
You can do the old marble trick! Place one on a counter top and see if it rolls (a LITTLE is ok). The only way to make sure the home is level is to put a water or sonic level on it. Don't fall for the 4' or 5' carpenters level placed on the floor - this doesn't mean the entire home is level - just that 4 or 5 feet. Generally a home will need to "settle" for a while , and then be rechecked for level.. Check with your dealer to see if he will come back once to re-level without charging you.
Re: Leveling your home!
I HAVE A DBL. WIDE , THE BACK CORNER HAS DROPPED
DUE TO WATER THAT GOT UNDERNEITH, FROM RAIN.THERE ARE TWO,
POSSIBLY THREE PEIRS THAT HAVE DROPPED.
WHAT WOULD BE THE PROCESS TO LEVEL THIS,AND COULD
I DO THIS MYSELF.
I HAVE BEEN I THE CONSTUCTION FEILD FOR ABOUT 15 YRS.
WHAT WOULD I USE MAYBE A COUPLE OF HYDROLIC JACKS AND SOME
SHORING OR TEMP STANDS,UNTIL I RESET THE PEIRS.
I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE ANY ADVISE YOU COULDGIVE.
THANK YOU,
HANK

Re: Leveling your home!
Henry, you better do something about that problem soon or you and your home will be underground.
Re: Leveling your home!
Don't buy into the hype that your home will be underground soon. It has the ring of a sales pitch to me. Rust and settling are indicative of water accumulating under your home which is not uncommon especially in parks where little or no excavation and site preperation exists. You can replace the piers easily without the need for hydrullic jacks if you are only talking a couple of jacks or so. Just do them on at a time. But it never hurts to call a pro regardless of your construction experience. I can't tell you how many times we've had to bail out a construction expert because he was out of his field fo expertise. Also you may want to consider some perimeter drainage and make sure your gutters are working properly leading the roof water away from your home.
