Floor replacement from underneath - possible?

Post by newbee » Mon Oct 14, 2024 9:40 am

Greetings,

Looking to purchase a used 2017 home that requires the entire one side of the home floor decking replaced due to a leak and rotting floors.

Is it possible to replace the entire floor from underneath - even under the walls, cabinets, showers, etc?
I do not understand how this can be done when the wood floor is sandwiched between the floor joist and walls, cabinets, showers, etc

The owner says it can be done, but I just do not understand how.

Thank you.

Yes, it is technically possible to replace the entire floor from underneath the home, including under the walls, cabinets, and showers, but it is a complex and costly project. If your home has a crawl space or an accessible foundation (such as a raised foundation), this will be crucial. If the home is built on a slab, this method won't be feasible because the flooring is integral to the structure.

Replacing the entire floor from underneath is extremely difficult, if not impossible, because the floor decking is typically secured under walls, cabinets, and fixtures, so a proper repair usually involves removing and reinstalling those structures.
