Which home is best?

Post by Charlotte » Wed Jul 16, 2003 8:50 pm

Planning a move to the country and want to know which manufactured home is the "best". I'm a little leary after reading all of the sites on this web page. We live in south Georgia.

In South GA..you have a larger choice of homes than anyone in the country..There are at least 40 plants building over 100 models in your area...

Best means different things to different folks...Remember there is a huge range of prices and quality ranges available to you..You will have to decide between quality, size, features and your pocket book...

Since there is soooooo much available..it can be confusing..I might suggest that you invest in Randy's book sold in the bookstore here..$30 or so well spent..Just remeber this author suggests you buy quality first..then features..then size..making it fit your pocket book....The book will show you hoe to tell quality when you see it..and describe features that are "must haves"..

A few brands that come to mind as top quality in your area...

Homes of Merit..from Lake City, FL..they build 4 lines in this plant..each with different construction specs..the best (and most expensive) is the Bay Manor..

Any Ardian Home
Any Jacobson Home
Almost any Horton Home (avoid the NovoDeck Floor and then all Hortons are good)
Palm Harbor..built in Plant City Fl or Northern AL..(LaGrange, GA product is much more basic in construction)
Fleetwood Product built in Florida..GA Fleetwoods are basic..

The list goes on and on..

Murry,
Many thanks for your comments. You have been a great help. I know it should be "quality first" and have seen a few "cheap" ones and a few "top of the line ones", I just wondered if there was" one" brand over the other, but I guess it's like buying suv's, they are all expensive. Thans for your help.
