I just insured my 08' Laurel Creek in AZ. 35x12, with 26x10 Deck, full alumium awning over deck and Carport. It has Hardipanel Lap Siding and detached shed on owned land. The value was declared at $60K for under $300 premium.
My 06' Redman on owned land, just appraised for $240K is covered by same insurer, with Earthquake coverage in WA, for $850.
My PKM insurance would of been less if fulltime residence?

Insurance is usually higher for a home that is NOT owner occupied as a primary residence. When the home is vacant the insurance company has a much greater exposure because there is no one there to stop problems when they start. For example - imagine the difference in damage if you have a plumbing leak that is discoverd on the first day it starts as opposed to one that continues to leak for days weeks or months.

Your manufactured home and park model may also have two different type classifications by your insurance company. Even though the park model is HUD approved, for insurance purposes your company might have it classified as an RV... something the insurance companies feel may be rolling the roads and so includes a greater chance of collision or other exposure not found with a manufactured home that is set permanently on its location.

Because your homes are in different states it is difficult to say if prime residency would drop the insurance on the park model. Each state regulates insurance companies according to that states insurance laws, exposures and yes... politics. As you have both homes insured with the same company ask you agent about the variation on policy premium vs.. appraised value.

Many people naturally, but mistakenly turn to an insurance office where they have purchased auto or business coverage. Manufactured home insurance is different than any other type of insurance. It is important that your insurance company specializes in manufactured home insurance. If you have a claim, you want people who understand how a home is manufactured and the best way to repair or replace it. It's always easier dealing with people who know their business. If your not satisfied with the answers you get from your agent go to http://mobilehomeinsurancequote.com/contact.php and submit the short form you find there on the CONTACT US page to ask the MH insurance specialist to give you a free quote on both homes.
