Attached Garage vs. Detached garage

When it comes to insurance, which is the cheaper way to go? Attaching your garage onto your house, or building a detached garage?? Several homeowners have told us we don't want an attached garage because our insurance will be much higher. Is that true?

Generally speaking, your insurance premiums will be less if you attach the garage to your home as a permanent structure. In this way, the value of the garage is included in the home valuation. If you leave it unattached, it is treated as an adjacent structure and you will be charged at a certain rate per $100 of valuation.
