Contact some of the area retailers or dealers for referrals.

You can search the Manufactured Housing Yellow Pages Try your search by state under the SERVICE category. You will find listings for 298 companies across the country.

Relocating an existing home is a complex task that requires many different skills. Don't purchase this service based on price alone. Do your homework before you enter into any written agreement to move your home.

Ensure that the Contractor is appropriately licensed

Ensure that the contractor has adequate liability insurance and workers compensation insurance.

Ask the contractor for a written list of his/her three most recent projects with names, telephone numbers and addresses of the owners.

Call the owners and ask questions as to the performance of the contractor.

Check with your local Building Department and find out what permits and inspections and standards will be required for your project. Most building departments will furnish you with a print out of the local requirements for relocating and installing your manufactured home. Many have this information online.

Check with your local better business bureau, the Building Department and the Office of the Attorney General to find out whether there have been any complaints filed against the contractor, or whether or not any disciplinary action has been taken against the contractor.

Once you have selected a contractor and before you sign any agreement or contract;

Do not enter into any agreements without a written contract that lists exactly what tasks will be accomplished. For Example: Is the contractor that moves the home going to hook up the water sewer and electric? Who is responsible for the cost if additional equipment (Bulldozer, Crain, etc) is needed to place the home. How much, if any of the site preparation will they do? What about existing additions, porches, awnings, skirting etc? Who is responsible for cleaning up the old site after the home is removed?

Ensure that the contractor has the ability to apply for and includes the appropriate building permits.

Ensure that your contract includes that final payment will be made only after the final inspection and appropriate paper work (example: Certificate of Occupancy) is in your hands.

Avoid the unknown. Before signing a contract make sure that your attorney reviews the contract.
