My husband and I have lived in 2 different Mobile Home Parks and would like to become Managers. My husband has his own Handyman Service and is a wonderful caretaker of property including our own. We have had our own businesses for the last 8 years so have a lot of people skills and business skills. I don't know where to begin looking for a position and I wonder if taking a Home Course in Property Management would be beneficial to getting a position. We live in Vancouver, WA and would like to stay in this area. How do we go about finding a Park to manage.

As with any new type of endeavor, this industry is sometimes hard to get into, yet we need so many good people in different positions across the country. For starters, prepare resumes for each of you. Then, make some decisions.
Do you own your own home? If so, are you willing/able to sell it? or rent it out? or move it?
What exactly does "in this area" mean? within a 50 mile radius? 100 mile radius?
How much do you need to earn in order to maintain your lifestyle? What type of benefits do you need? What limitations do you have or do you want to place on the type or amount of work you do or the hours or days you are available?
Which communities within your desired area would you like to manage?
What if you are offered a position that requires relocation outside of your defined area, with a promise that you could return later?
Then, begin systematically contacting the property management companies that own these communities or individual owners and ask if they have a need for managers, or if you can submit your resume. You might also get in touch with the state association to see if they know of anyone looking for managers.

One more question.
My resume is mostly in the Medical Field with a lot of Customer Service, Accounting and Computer Skills. Would I leave it or change it to focus more on our own business endevors?

We have an opening in Bakersfield Ca 160 space MHP. If you are interested
please contact us we will train you. You will work as Assistant Manager
for two to three months and you will be ready to take over as Manager.

You're taken more seriously when you take the property management course. Get your resume' together and get it circulating. Try (cold calls), call mobile home communities and question about how many parks the owner may have and who might you send a resume' to.

I want to purchase a MH Park. I already purchased Ms. Jackson's property management materials. What courses are available to take to further my education on park ownership/management. Who offers correspondence courses and who offers classroom courses?

The national trade association offers classroom courses throughout the year, normally sponsored by one of the state trace associations. By calling 800-505-5500 and talking to Ann Parman, Executive Vice President of the Manufactured Housing Educational Institute, you can get a complete listing of all classes available as of this time.
