Serial Numbers & Missing Hud Labels

Post by cmtfromga » Wed Sep 15, 2004 4:00 pm

We are selling our mobile home. It is a 1977 Fleetwood double wide. We had no idea how old it was or the model.
I called the tax and tag office in the town I live in. They were able to pull up the records for me. I do not have a title for my home and never have. This department is where you go to get you automobile license plates.
The Vin number or serial number was another problem. Thanks to this website I found ours. It is on the beam that runs across the mobile home where the tongue was. It is cold stamped into both halves of the home. To find it we had to remove some foundation block.
The hud plates were taken off the house as well as all the other cerificates that are normally in the home. I was put in touch with IBTS Institute. I believe the website is www.ibts.gov.
There is a 50.00 fee for them to research the Hud Label Numbers. You pay the fee and if they cant find the numbers you are out the money but it is worth the shot cause you cant sell your home without them.
The person I dealt with was:

Pam Brillhart
Label Department Team Leader
IBTS
Contractor to Hud
703-481-2010
You can either fill out the form on line and use a debit card or credit card or print out the form and mail it. I suggest the debit/credit card option if you are in a hurry. They had mine to me in a day.

Our buyer is going through FHA. The property appraisal is tougher than a conventional. Also FHA requires you to have a foundation inspection by a cerified engineer. We are having to put in two additional Piers and they also want two tie downs on each corner. When this home was put here in 1976 they left 3/4 of the back of the foundation open. When we bought it we put vinyl skirting to close it in. We are not hiring a contractor to come put concret blocks in this area per the engineer. I still do not understand why he wants the two piers because I have them spaced evenly all under the house but dont argue with him. He makes the decision.

This has been an experience for sure. Remember if your home was built after 6-15-76 your foundation will probably not pass the required inspection. We are looking at minimum $1000.00 in construction to be done.

I hope this helped anyone out there having trouble. Feel free to email me if I can be of any help to you.
