VIN NUMBERS

Post by RENAYE » Thu Jun 17, 2004 6:44 pm

I AM TRYING TO SELL MY MOBILE HOME THAT WAS MADE IN 1975 OR 1976. I LIVE IN FLORIDA AND THE MORTAGE COMPANY WILL NOT PROCEED UNTIL THEY HAVE A VIN NUMBER. I HAVE LOOKED ALL OVER MY HOME AND CAN'T FIND IT. I CALLED A MANUFACTURED RETAIL PLACE AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY DIDN'T START PUTTING VIN NUMBERS ON THEM UNTIL JULY 1976. IF YOU COULD LET ME KNOW THAT WOULD BE A GREAT HELP.THANK YOU

Try your local tax collector..they usually have this info...also..the vin number is on the title..you should have one somewhere...if not the title office can do a search for you..

All homes built prior to 1977 had sn numbers....The manufacture probably only keeps records that far back..There is a way for the Florida title office to assign a new number to an older home...You will have to talk to a VERY knowledgeable about procedure since this is a little used service of the title office...It will involve stamping a new number on the frame and an inspection by a law enforcement officer..

You have not mentioned if your home is a double or single home...a double home costs many thousands to move..and that means you will lose lots of money on this sale...much better would be to sell the home and land as a package and buy new land to build on...You would be tens of thousnads ahead of the game..Your PH is a nice home..it was meant to be permaently set..and probably was...treat it like a house..sell the package...if you had a stick built on this property would you be trying to sell it and keep the land??...

I am going through the same issue. I never got a title from the person I bought my home from and though the mobile home has been taxed in my name for the past 14 years, the state/county tax division have no record of title. They are requiring a VIN also - I can find lots of different numbers but none are the VIN. I believe the manufacturer is out of business. Shouldn't the state be able to issue a title for this unit with the serial number and proof of taxes paid for that far back? I am in Minnesota.

Jean - you might try calling the Minnesota Manufactured Housing Association at 651-450-4700 if the folks at your bureau of motor vehicles cannot help.

Selling our home

We have been going crazy with the buyers lenders. They want information I dont have.

The mobile home is a 1976. I do not know the make or model. I found the SN # on the frame of the home and one of the characters is hard to read. Do you know if the serial numbers had 4 Letters first then a number?

Is the Sn # the same as a VIN number on a car? Can I determine the manufacturer or model from this number? I found two different dates stamped in my toilets but one is 2 Aug 3 1976 and the number 2, letter A and number 3 are in order on the SN #.

The hud tags were removed by the original owner. He took the factory siding off the home and put red wood siding. We have since put vinyl siding over the redwood. It look like the previous owner may have removed the original siding and therefore the tags. Is there any way of telling the Hud number from the SN #?

You help with this would be greatly appreciated. The appraiser is coming back in the morning to verify these numbers and dates we have found.

Thank You
