License to Sell

Post by Karl » Sun Mar 10, 2002 10:04 am

I've seen reference off and on in this website about sales techniques, etc. My question is, does the industry or govt require some sort of a "license" to sell manufactured homes (like a real estate license)? If so, is it a state-by-state requirement, and how does one go about getting this license? Or is it all unregulated?

It is a state-by-state issue. In some states, a license is required in order to sell manufactured housing. In some states, it is actually a real estate license, while other states require a specific manufactured housing license. In some states, where you sell homes from determines if you need a license or not - for example, if you sell from a retailer's sales center you do, but if you sell from within a community you don't. Sometimes whether you sell new homes or only broker the sale of a pre-loved home determines the need for a license. In all cases, the state manufactured housing association is your best place for an answer, and also information about mandatory training, if there is any.

Thanks. I'll call the Illinois Manufactured Home Association for the answer.
