Chrissy,
Is the term "prefab" the same as manufactured?
names
RE: names
Not at all the same when used within the context of the manufactured housing industry. While the term "prefab" (short for "prefabricated") does mean "built in a factory," it refers to something that is not built to the HUD Code. A manufactured home is built to a stringent set of guidelines based on a performance code administered, regulated, and inspected by the federal government. One of the first things we cover in the Accredited Community Manager classes offered through the Manufactured Housing Educational Institute and sponsored by various state associations is terminology. There is a more complete course outline available on my website. Please plan to attend - the content is current, exciting, and widely used by the community management segment of our industry.
