Back on 11-03-01 I posted a message hoping to hear from those that have knowledge on what direction the industry is going. After reading all the different Discussion Forums, I thought this forum would be the best catagory to post my questions.
I own a small construction company specializing in Manufactured Home Repairs. Seems like a couple of years ago they could not find enough good contractors to work on homes, and now it seems like there isnt enough work out there with all the changes going around lately. Champion closes plants, Conseco all but broke, Floor Lenders backing out, and on Friday 11-16-02 I get a call from Oakwood Homes (OH) that told me they intend on filing chapter 11 to restructure, closing 7 plants and more than 75 retail sites. Thats why I came here to begin with. I was hoping that with all the information on the site, I would be able to hear what others have to say about the direction Manufactured Homes Builders are taking. I spent 10+ years in the field doing service for Champion Homes and realized after meeting many homeowners that buyers only want there home repaired, not "well, thats not my responsibility", or "Sorry, your out of warranty". So, with all this I decided to do things a bit different and with all my $money spent on setting up my own business last year I have to set and wonder if things are going to get worse before they get better. Instead of explaining how much I enjoy the industry I would like to post my site and invite you see how we do things in the service for manufacturers. I belive that the bottom line is Homeowners feel they spent hard earned money for a quality home. They only want to get the home set/serviced and move in. Why is it so hard for builders and dealers to see that if you have the right people in the right jobs it equals happy owners and potential sales? Anyway, here is my site and I would love to hear from anyone that cares to share thoughts on where the market is going. I truly love what I do but I hate to go broke trying.
Thank you for your time-

There should be no reason for you going broke unless you are not looking in the right place for business! With the abundance of repossessions still available, maybe you need to look other places than manufacturers. Try talking to lienholders who are divesting themselves of their inventory. Talk to retailers and community owners who are buying these repossessions. If they need repair, someone is going to have to pay for it, and usually before it is sold.
