I have preliminary plans for a double wide that is somewhat "innovative" Does anyone know of a manufacturer that would build this for me? Initial quantity is three homes, but it could grow exponentially.

I'm thinking that because of the low quantities, we might not want to seek HUD approval initially. Would it make sense to build it without drywall, then have local subs. pull the mechanical permits? Then the local building departments could conduct inspections like a site built home.

Factories build either/or HUD or modular homes..all have to be built to some code...

You failed to mention what part of the country you are in...there are many plants that will do completely custom homes..that meet the codes...They will take care of HUD approvals and have them built in less than 4 weeks...

Unless you have a dealers license in the state you are in..you will have to go through a dealer...They should be able to advise you on what is available in your area...
