I am considering going into MH sales for PH. Would anyone care to comment on whether or not is a good move to go into MH sales in the current economic situation? What are some things I should be looking for in a MH company before I go to work for them? Is it realistic to assume that I can make a decent living selling MH homes ($60K or more in NC)?
Thanks for your input

Re: Considering MH sales
Absolutely-
I have been in the business for approx 3 years and have loved every minute of it. Palm Harbor is a tremendous company with unlimited potential.
Have a great day

For a beginner...PH is a great company..they have good training..something that is lacking at many companies...A beginning carrier with PH will leave many paths for the future..
Continued advancement with PH, moving on to higher paying independents or even owning your own location in the future..
Your estimate for income is right in the middle...You are not likely to make this much your first year...if only because it takes so long for deals to work through the system...For the second year and beyond..you are right on the numbers...There are some who make a little less...but there are many making more...
Candidly...for you to stay with PH or any dealer you will HAVE to make 45K or above...Anything less than that and you are losing good business for the company and management knows this..
This is a great time to enter the industry...The industry has changed 100% in the last year and many "oldtimers" are not adjusting very well...Starting now..and learning the industry the way it is now can be a big advantage...

Re: Considering MH sales
WELL THIS YEAR AND LAST YEAR SALES HAVE DROPPED ALOT IN MINNESOTA. I READ MAGIZINES ON THIS TOO AND I GUESS IT IS EVERYWHERE. BUT IT IS SMART TO GET IN WHEN IT IS SLOW TO LEARN THE ROPES. I DID SERVICE WORK WITH MY MOTHER FOR 12 YEARS. WE WERE KNOWN AS THE CRAZY WOMEN WHO WOULD DO ALOT OF HARD BULL WORK. I GOT IN TO SALES FEB. 2002. IT WAS NOT A GOOD YEAR LAST YEAR BUT THE COMPANY I WAS WORKING FOR WAS HURTING AND THEY DID GO UNDER. SO I GUESS IT WOULD BE OK TO GET INTO IT BUT. REMEMBER IT TAKES A FEW YEARS TO GET GOOD MONEY AND IN THE WINTER HERE WE ARE SLOW I DO NOT KNOW WHEN YOUR SLOW MONTHS WILL BE BUT GOOD LUCK BUT REMEMBER YOU MAY HAVE TO GET A SECOND JOB AND IT DOES IN THE GOOD MONTHS TAKE ALOT OF TIME OUT OF YOUR FAMILY LIFE. LONG HARD HOURS. MY KIDS ARE ALL OUT OF HOME NOW BUT I DO NOT HAVE MUCH TIME TO SPEND WITH MY NEW GRANDSON OR THE REST OF MY FAMILY. I GUESS I WOULD TALK TO SOME PEOPLE IN THE BUSINESS IN YOUR STATE AND SEE WHAT THEY HAVE TO SAY. GOOD LUCK
