I was fortunate during the 90s, my days in the repo business, to wholesale finance company inventory to retailers across Georgia and Florida. I still network with many of my former customers and visit retail centers several time most month. I'm always stunned at the total lack of positive activity in the "bullpen". The sales people that do not have an "up" at the moment are usually sitting drinking coffee, reading the newspaper, trading war stories, or standing out front waiting for their "up" to roll in. In other words, when there is not a customer in front of them most of the sales team is in the hover mode.Some of these stores keep a guest book, and request or even require folks to register their contact information prior to viewing the models. The names and phone numbers are right there but no one is taking advantage of them. Over the past few years some of the major builders have been trying a variety of progressive methods to stimulate the sales of their homes. Several factories generated or purchased millions of dollars in leads many from the internet, some from more traditional methods. They passed these leads on to the local dealerships where they were put on ignore immediatelyI just don't get it. It seems that our industry took a huge number of pages from the marketing books written for the automobile industry but just forgot to read the last chapter (or two).
