taxes on mfd house

Post by Faye » Wed Mar 18, 2009 11:41 pm

When buying a manufactured house, is there a tax on it the same as if an RV were being purchased? After set-up, is it taxed the same as a site-built or modular home? We have the Grissim guides, but I didn't find this issue addressed. If it is, I missed it.

Each state has different sales tax regulations for the sale of manufactured homes. Ask the dealer you have selected to purchase from how sales tax effects your purchase

After the sale some states will have an annual tag or license fee like an RV. Some consider manufactured homes part of the real-estate and tax as they would any other structure. Some have mixed policies... like where I live in Florida. Here If you own the home and the land that he home sits on then your MH is taxed as a permanent structure and improvement to the real-estate. If your MH is in a land lease community (mobile home park) you have to pay an annual fee to the DMV.

Tell us where you are and perhaps one of our regulars will know about your state or you can contact your state manufactured housing association. You can find a listing of state association contacts at http://mfdhousing.com/ind.html
