Hello. What a great forum! I need to ask some very basic questions of you mobilehomers and experts.

We are looking forward to retirement and are confused about EVERYTHING.

First question revolves around "triple-wides" I very rarely see this term used in new OR used ads for mobilehomes. So how do I know about triple wides?

Secondly, I read about manufactured-modular homes? Where does one go to see about them on the Internet?
Thanks
Mary.

Hi Mary:

Here is a good overview of what mobile and manufactured homes are.
Just do a search for Wikipedia in your favorite search engine and put "mobile home" in the search box.

I think they have pretty much dropped the term triplewide and switched to just "manufactured home". The term triplewide was used to describe a larger mobile home that came in three sections as opposed to two sections.

Hope that helps a little.

Faith

Hi Mary:

I have found a reference to a triplewide from Redmond.

They appear to be quite large and certainly would be nice if you owned your own lot or property.

You might start here in the book store..There are some very good buying guides there..all worth the money many times over...

Triple section homes are very common in the market today...The industry is making an effort to upgrade its image by changing the terms it uses..The term triplewide...doublewide are changing to multi section or triple section...But any home wider than 32 feet is a triple section some are 42 feet wide and as long as 80 feet..or about 3100 Sq. feet..Some years ago there were lots of triple section home that were basically a 28 wide home with a small additional section..usually 14x20 which was a kitchen or den..These were usually about 1900 sq feet and all but disappeared with the 32 wide homes which could be built bigger and cheaper..

You can find volume of info on factory built homes here at this web site..
Consumers Union (owners of Consumers Report magazine) has a good consumer web site with tons of info..here
