Looking to buy in 2007

Hi
I will be finishing up with school in two years and would like to buy a manufactured home after I graduate. Over the next two years I will be able to put aside $1,000 a month. I am interested in buying a doublewide home somewhere around 2000-2400 square feet.
My questions
1. Would approx. $24,000 be enough for a downpayment? I am most interested in home - land options.
2. Also if I decided four or five years down the line after actually living in the home to have it set on a basement on the same property could that be done.? Or is it a once its set thats it kinda deal? I was considering pit set if it can be done but if not having it set on a concrete foundation.
3. Is the house more sturdy if it is set on a basement and does that make it easier for repairs? Is a concrete foundation more sturdy?
4.On a another site I read where a person had steel beams instead of wood put in there home is that possible?
5. Anyone got any information on land home options in lower upstate NY or NJ
( close to NY).
On a side note.
Did anyone catch that report on the news about the mobile homes in California that are going for 1 million dollars. They did some major upgrades to the inside of those homes.
Thanks!
