I was talking to a Horton Homes dealer last week. He told me that the Horton Homes have structureboard floors. Is this some type of particleboard? I told him that I preferred OSB. He claimed that Horton uses structureboard because it has a longer warranty than plywood. I just don't want to buy a house end up with the floors causing problems down the road.

I would ask the dealer to show you a sample of this material. Preferably, by pulling up some carpet on a display model they have sitting on their lot. The visual difference between particle board, OSB and plywood is very obvious. If you are not familiar with these products, you can visit any well-stocked lumberyard and take a look at all three.

"Structurwood" is Weyerhauser's trade name for their tounge and groove OSB flooring product. The Horton Homes web site says they use "23/32" thick, tongue and groove floor decking". I'm guessing that your dealer is referring to Structurwood, and just using the wrong term.

But this is something you should definitely check out for yourself...
