Serial Number for Mobile Home

Post by gailsbells » Thu May 12, 2005 8:18 pm

We are desperate! ANY suggestions/ideas welcome.

We purchased a 1987 Sterling Soyer mobile home as rental property. We need to find the serial number that is supposed to be stamped on the home somewhere. We can not find it. We looked for the tag inside and can see where it was removed from a back bedroom wall. We were told it should be stamped on the front near the tongue or in kitchen cabinets. We have looked everywhere we can think of. Can not find it anywhere. . Any other suggestions? Tried to call manufacturer, they are out of business.

Thanks in advance for suggestions

I'm not sure where you are going to find the serial number of the home, you are obviously looking in the right places. Here's another thought. Call or go see your county assessor. They are assessing taxes on the home, so they will have record of the origins of the home. If they are assessing taxes as personal property, they should have a record of the home's title, which will reflect the serial number. If the home has been converted to real property, they should also have record of the title from which it was transfered. Hope that helps.

Thank you Mr Murray... here is the info copied from the referenced page.

The Serial number is stamped into the front steel cross-member of the home chassis by the manufacturer, and is different from the HUD certification label. The home's skirting may need to be removed to allow access to this serial number. Include ALL the letters and numbers of the serial number in your request.

(This number may be either vertical or horizontal

This information can also be found on the data plate if it is still with the home. The serial number may also be found on title or insurance document.

Try looking on the title. Or you may have to pay the motor vehicle department for a title search. Also try the county or city property tax department

I came across your info request while looking for some info on the Sterling mobile home. We are looking at the possibility of purchasing one for rental, but we do not know anything about the model or value. The one that we're looking at is also a 1987.

Could you provide any info on a web site we could go to to obtain any info on this particular model and it's value?

Thank you---

Cathy
