Commodore of PA
Commodore of PA
I've been lurking, here, for a few months, while shopping around for a manufactured home. This site has offered a wealth of information. We found some really nice homes. Some offer a lot and some don't offer much more than shelter. But for our family needs we have found several Commodre homes. They seem to offer quite a bit at a very reasonable price. We live in south western PA. so the home would be coming from the plant in Clarion (I think), PA. Does anyone have any experience with Commodore? I just wanted to add that this home will be put on our own land (when we finally settle on one of several choices) and on a full foundation (basement and garage).

Re: Commodore of PA
Commodore builds very nice homes in the mid to high priced segment of the market. Also check out Colony Homes. They are part of the Commodore Corporation, and they build essentialy the same house. Commodore also owns Manorwood homes (modular only) and Astro homes (lower priced homes) This variety means that many if not most PA retailers handle some sort of Commodore product. This will give you a little more lattitude in finding the retailer that is right for you. The retailer is very important, not only for getting the best price, but your whole home buying experience is based on finding a good retailer. It is they who will arrange your financing, coordinate your sitework and take care of any needed warranty work. The right retailer is extra important with commodore because they offer more floorplans and options than most manufacturers so the retailer has to be knowledgeable to help you through the process of choosing your home.
good luck.
good luck.
Re: Commodore of PA
I am very familar with Commodore. They build a very nice home. I would not be afraid to live in one myself.
Just make sure you pick a very good dealer and since you are putting the home on a basement, buy a home with a perimeter (basement ready) frame. Remember the state wide building code took effect in PA, so you want to make sure that you know how the local building official is going to react.
You don't want to be caught with unexpected costs to comply with the new building code.

Re: Commodore of PA
I agree with Eugene. Commodore builds a very good home. Be careful in the southwestern part of PA, in regards to retailers. I know of a reputable retailer near sommerset, Hemminger Homes. They do a good job. Commodores Service (if needed) is very good, they stand behind their product.
