I am looking for some straight scoop on MH's. I have done alot of research and narrowed down the ones I like..I am familiar with stick built homes and the construction of them..My quandry now is the quality of a MH. I hear so many horror stories I am getting gun shy to buy one. I have concerns about the roof trusses 2x2's scare me..also the sub flooring..particle board or something similiar instead of plywood makes me worry..then there are all the stories I have read about the home not being level and settling..ect. They seem to be constructed well. But its all the little things I've read that are worrying me. Are they built well or is it all smoke and mirrors?

There are good ones and there are not so good ones...just like stick built homes...
Since your choice seems to be manufactured or stick built ( at least twice as much as a similar sized manufactured home)...Why not look at the top quality manufactured home...with 2x6 wall studs on the exterior..2x8 floor joists...3/4 inch plywood sub-floor (under any circumstance..do not buy the press board products)...roof loads to the needs of your area...or better yet..have yours built to the roof loads further north than you...Energy Star rated homes...even ceramic tile floors in the kitchens and the baths...all for about $45/sq ft...There are many brands out there like this..some even with 5 year factory protection plans..
There are manufactured homes as low as $26/ sq. ft...These are a little more basic...but to compare with stick built..the best homes will beat them in all ways..including cost by tens of thousands.
