high end mobile homes
high end mobile homes
I live in eastern ky and have been trying to decide whether to build a small house or buy a double wide. I recently visited some mobile home sales and was surprised at what i found. I went to a clayton lot to look at norris and it was closed but there was a double wide set up with the vinyl off of the ends and there was gaps everywhere between the panels of osb. They had cut small pieces of osb as fillers to fill gaps. Some were about 1/2 inch to fill a 1 inch gap. I also looked at a crystal valley on another lot and a wall appeared to be bowing and a lot of receptacles were in crooked, I also found a lot of receptacles crooked in some norris last year. These are things that probably wouldnt effect the use of the home but if you are going to pay $75,000 or more you shouldnt have these kind of things in your home. If a home is built in a controlled area, then why arent the walls plumb & square and if the walls are plumb and square why is there gaps between the panels of osb. Looks like a small house for me.

Sadly, first impressions can be lasting ones. You shouldn't judge all manufactured
homes based on what you saw on one lot. Most of the quality MH's are not built at
all as you describe. Try a couple of other manufacturers. Compare what you saw
at the first lot to a good builder such as Palm Harbor, Homes of Merit, or Patriot.
If you look at a number of site built homes, you will also find a wide variety of
quality amongst various builders.
good luck

The problems i discovered was actually at 3 different lots and crystal valley is patriot's top of the line home.

My daughter baught a 200,000 stick built in Michigan two years ago. Nice home no doubt... But, not perfect to say the least. Some shoddy dry wall work in a few spots, Cheap light fixtures, yet Ceramic in the kitchen & baths. Point is I've sold MH, and I've seen some bad ones... But, I've also seen the same in sticks. No such thing as perfection! Ü
