Modular vs Double-wide
What is the difference between a Modular and a standard double wide. ie: frame, method of construction, roof pitch, etc. Are both brought in as trailers and put together?
Re: Modular vs Double-wide
Joe,
Here's a terrific article put together about manufactured housing...
http://www.mfghome.org/understanding_to ... /index.htm
Double wides are manufactured to the Federal HUD Code. Modular homes are built to the state codes where the home will be permanently installed. These state codes are the same codes that site builders use. Both types of homes are transported to the site. The modular home will be lifted off the carriers that transport the sections and be installed on a permanent foundation or basement.
Here are just some the standards on our modulars...
2”x6” exterior walls with R-21 insulation
High efficiency gas furnace with ducts (per print)
R-33 blown insulation in the roof
Plumb for washer and wire for electric dryer
Shut-off valves on sinks, stools, & water heater
Single lever faucets on all sinks and lavatories
All tubs and showers are fiberglass
40 Gallon electric water heater with dual element
Truss floor system with double 2”x10” rim joist
25 oz. FHA approved carpet with 7 lb. rebond pad throughout
¾” tongue & groove floor decking
Hope this helps.
