I am in the process of selling my home and would like to move into a manufactured home. Which home is the best build and the best price? Is there an e-mail site which rates manufactured homes? Can you buy the home and land at the same time or do you have to have land that is fully paid? Are there publications which can help first time buyers?

Which home is the best build and the best price?...Tough question...Remember the largest manufacturers...Fleetwood, Palm Harbor, Clayton, Nobility, Southern Energy and Liberty..All build homes in many plants..sometimes more than 1 model in each plant..everyone being of different quality and with different specs and prices...What is good in CA can very well be junk in GA...
The single largest builder..Champion...builds under many differnet brand names..often folks have no idea Champion ownes the factory...Such as Redman..Homes of Merit..Champion..Chandelour..and many others...every plant agian has different models..all different..
The best way to proceed is to get yourself up to speed on what quality features you feel important to you...Just remember the building code is minimum..VERY minimum...There are a few good books available here on this web site's bookstore that could be a very good start....
The following URL will take you to a dealer links page..there are scores of links there to help...Consumers Union..Federal Trade Commission..Industry sites...The federal Energy Star web site...The best mortgage site on the web to get an understnding of mortgages...Even Foremost Insurances very informative web site..

As I said in my previous post..Palm Harbor is a very large company..they have plants all over the US and they build different products in each..
The best avenue to follow is to decide just what level of quality you want in your home...decide which construction features are important to you..then find homes in your market area that fill the bill...
Remember the choice of a dealer is almost as important as the actual choice of the home...The dealer can make almost any home a good experience...or can make the very best home a nightmare..
Also..a large part of the cost of buying a home is in finance...One should shop finance just as carefully as the home...1% in interest can make tens of thousands of difference in the life of the loan...high interest financing can make a good cash price disappear and become a lousy deal..

desmond , the best way is to contact a palm harbor location in your area, ask them for a factory of the closest plant in your area. then call some others and ask the same thing. palm harbor actually encourages buyers to tour the plant. another way how many restaurants would encourage you to inpect their kitchens?
