Factory Tour at Horton Homes

We got a factory tour of the Horton Homes of Eatonton, Ga. Wed June 11. We arrived at around 10:00 AM and was met by Ronnie Jones. He has been with Horton Homes for 30 + years. He definitely knows Horton Homes. We started at the very beginning with the frame. He showed us the unique thing with their frames. They have outriggers from the main I beams for added stability. He also explained the camber in the frame that allowed for the weight on the frame. The next area was the building of the floor/rough heating ducts/rough plumbing/Insulation blankets. Then we went on to the outside wall construction. The sheetrock is foam glued to the 2x4's (2x6's). Next was internal walls. Next section was installing these walls to the floor frame. Then the rough electrical was installed with panel. I was impressed with how they banded together the walls to the floor frame. Electrical boxes are nailed to the studs on the sheetrock upgrade. The roofs are prebuilt then attached. The felt for the roof is one piece for each side of the house then the roofers are on top nailing that roofing. The assembly line flows like a well oiled machine. I could go on and on about what we saw but will try to keep this limited for space reasons. My wife was impressed with the construction and could tell the superior difference between Horton and PH. We were able to see new houses that they are coming out with with new colors/panels etc. This was an added bonus. I would advise anyone that is going to buy a MH to visit the plant that will build their house. It is an eye opener. As you said Mr. Murray I was pleasantly surprised! I do believe Mr. Eaton should have Horton in his comparison book. We have now nailed it down to Horton. As soon as be sell our house we will off to the races.

As an industry veteran...this and Homes of Merit are the 2 most well run organizations in the SE...You will be happy with your Horton..and it will serve you well...

I will be going to the plant this Monday...To see the l;ine up for the 2004's....The new colors look very nice and fresh..

Did they mention that in a unfinished sheetrock home they will give you cedar lined closets for free...This save the time of finishing the closets and is a nice added touch..

Please schedule a tour next week or thereafter. We are very interested in seeing how well they are built and get a list of options as we intend to order a new one.

We would like to have a large den and a bedroom to turn into an art studio with built-in cabinets. Perabably, the kitchen and art room would be on the back of the house.

We are looking for 2,000 - 24,000 sq. ft. and less that $65,000 if possible.

Wish I coulda went for a tour, but it was just too far..

They (the dealer) didn't tell me anything about getting cedar lined closets in my unifinished sheetrock.. Can I ask for them now? Is this something new they started? My home was built in April 2004
