What exactly does upgrading to a wind zone rating entail ? The area I'm planning on buying a new home for requires a wind zone 2 rating ( coastal nc ). All the dealers I've spoken with say no problem for $500-3000 how can there be such a variation isn't this an industry standard?

There is quite a difference in the HUD code...You are now finding out just how different the basic models can be...In the most basic wind zone 1 homes..there are extensive changes in the roof, wall, shearwalls and marrage walls...In the most delux wind zone 1 homes..the difference will only be the anchor system and nothing else...
The basic difference is that the home is engineered to withstand 10 mph higher wind conditions....
try to stick to the quality homes that only have small option prices..they are the best homes in the first place..
