ac in ceiling
What do you think about having the a/c ducts in the ceiling? Pros and cons. ow would you do any repairs to it if needed? Thanks
Re: ac in ceiling
Pros...
Most effective in warm weather climates..
Floor ducts tend to have a dust and dirt build up over time...thus blowing dust into the air everytime the a/c runs (can be a health problem for some) and lowering the efficiency of the ducts over time...this does not happen with cieling ducts..
Furniture placement does not matter at all with overhead ducts..(much liked by many ladies...and remember..lady of the house happy...man will be ok)
No chance for moisture build up as happens sometimes in floor ducts...
Most ceiling ducts are flex duct....which means less hard 90 degree turns..a/c looses 50% of its efficiency for every 90 degree turn...
Negative...working on them...almost impossible...most homes would require a part of the roof to be removed...(this makes man very unhappy..but what is more important...happy woman or happy man?????)
Our 22 year old office had ceiling ducts...we were having some problems...all we did was reduct the home from the floor...it did not cost much...it is a little less convenient now...but the new ducts work fine..

Re: ac in ceiling
I live in Louisiana, would you recommend them here? I do like the fact that no toys will end up missing due to the vent. But I am concerned about the repairs. The dealer says he has never had any problems but they tell you what you want to hear anyway. Thanks Again.
Re: ac in ceiling
Sorry, one more question. They want $2500 to put the vents in the ceiling. Is it worth it or just deal with the floor ducts. Thanks.
Re: ac in ceiling
WOW...seems like a lot of money for cieling vents....You might remeber to get a price with all the features you want..and then shop this home and others with the same features...
Actually...if the vents are that much of an option...they are probably seldom done by the plant...which means they might not be too skilled at building a home with overhead ducts...This sounds like it could be problems..
