Senior Housing in the Wine Country

Post by Cathy, San Francisco » Mon Feb 17, 2003 1:56 pm

I will be 55 this year -- and my 'dream' has been to buy a manufactured home in a Senior Community in California , near, Sonoma or Napa-- I live/work in San Francisco -- so this will be a 'getaway' home as many days a week as I can manage...I grew up in the country -- and I am very unconfortable living within site of the Golden Gate Bridge everytime they rachet up the terrorist warnings -- all recommendations welcome -- housing brands -- specific parks -- I want 3 bedrooms...any advice? Hi Cathy,

I lived in Hayward and retired to Lake County last year. I purchased a MH for some property I owned.

Sonoma and Napa are going to require some big bucks to live in. You might try searching for existing MH homes for sale in those areas. You can do a search at realtor.net by ZIP code.

I am not sure if any dealers are in those areas. Santa Rosa, Ukiah, Clearlake and Lakeport all have dealers. Most dealers are aware of MH parks in their areas and I am sure they would help you.

Karsten, SIlvercrest, and Fuqa are all good brands but what you need to do is find out as much as you can about what to look for in a MH. Even Silvercrest makes a low end that you really should avoid. This board has tons of inforamtion and the book by Randy Eaton will get you started.

I like my Karsten (built in Stayton, OR rather than Sacramento).
Well-thought-out features and quality for the price.

Hi Cathy,
I live in Napa Valley and there are numerous parks around. Family and 55 +. There is a nice one St. Helena that has price caps for and is reserved strictly for retired persons. I would contact a local Realtor in the area and have them take you to some of the parks. You can also search on Realtor.com the zip is 94558 for Napa and 94574 for St. helena. All beautiful country. Some one else may have info on Sonoma for you.
