The factory rep called us Thursday, Dec 19, and said they were almost through with our house and were closing Friday and would reopen on Jan 6. They need to install the carpet, do the trim, and put on the rock around the fireplace.

The plant was closed for good yesterday...They will not be reopening.....They might have finished yours yesterday...but final finish might be rough..Also they likely did not do a final check...Be sure to check it out good when it come in...

Your might be the last home built in Cordele..

Hubby called the factory rep on his cell this morning and he affirmed that the plant was closed for new orders and that also they closed one in Texas, Mississippi, and I think he said Louisiana. He said it includes about 600 employees who would get at least two months severence pay, etc. but in order for Cavalier to survive it was needed. He said that the service provided in Georgia had already been centralized so it did not really matter which plant the home was built in. He said our home would be finished in Cordele and would be ready to come up on January 6. He has asked if we wanted to come and look at it and we may do that Friday if he is available. He talked like he would be working this week except on Christmas.

Well, that explains why Belmont contacted me for service on my Homestead Home (but doesn't explain why I still haven't heard from a service tech.)

Murray, was Belmont one of the shutdowns too?

Yes...they closed
Graham (sp) Tx...Town and Country Homes

Homestead, Ga

Belmont, Ms

Riverchase, Ala

It is hard to believe that they were going to run service for you out of MS...I would have thought that Millen, GA the Bellcrest (now called Cavalier of GA) would have run your service...

This is where you home was probably built..

I would be very careful about final finish...but..from what you have said..it sounds like your dealer might be in tough trouble as well (many are) and cancelling might not be much of an option..

When you get the home there will be a 60 day walk through sheet that has to be turned in for cosmetic warranty service...I do not think I would wait for the whole 60 days...When set and finished fill out the form in detail asap and get it in to where ever it is that will be taking care of your home...

Just be sure that nobody gets anymore money until the home is properly set and finished.. (not the service order)...and the worst case senairio will be you have a good home at a good price with a few problems..These would be very minor in comparison to trying to cancel and not being able to get your money back..

There are folks in the know that are convinced this will allow Cavalier to continue to exist...Only time will tell...

I happen to be a dealer for Astro (up north). One of cavaliers plants. Have been a dealer for 17 years. Of course I am not in one of the affected areas so my opinion may not count as much. The way I see it is if a company needs to close a few plants to make it profitable then so be it. Our local cavalier plant has about a 8 week backlog on orders because their homes are of such good quality and at a GREAT price! I wish you all the best of luck but I think that if you are a dealer with cavalier then you had better stay with them because I beleive the wagon is going to start rolling even faster in the new year!

A quote from a cavalier plant sales manager.

"Cavalier has decided to close 4 plants that were strategically located next to another Cavalier plant. By closing one of the two plants in each area, Cavalier is able to still provide product for the entire current dealer network and yet reduce any financial strain on the company of trying to keep two plants running strong and efficient during these challenging times. This move, however hard to do will simply ensure that each retailer is taken care of and that Cavalier as a company can remain profitable and strong."
