Mr. Murry, here's that Champion question....sm`

I was talking about below.
I was under the impression that Champion wasn't very stable (thought they were in bankruptcy, thanks for correcting me on that) and that they don't build very good homes. At the Champion dealership the salesman told me that they use solid instead of corrugated steel beams, real rock on the fireplace, etc. (as opposed to, of course, the dealer down the road). Are they really a pretty well-built home? Have I done wrong to discount them? Should I keep them in mind? They have a floor plan I really like.

Champion is a holding company that owns a number of manufacturers that are run as independent companies...the only thing is that Champion Homes ownes all the stock...They operate the largest manufacture and builder of homes with only 40 people in the home office...Fleetwood..the number 2 company is a centralized company with central overall management..They have 900 people in the home office...The business plan is completely different..
The point is most Champion product is built under another name..examples..Dutch, Homes of Merit, Redman..on and on..and of course Champion
Each of these plants have different building specs, different warranties, different service policies, different floorplans..and they all compete with each other vigorously..Personally I like their business plan because it allows the local plant to react to local market..Also..you are dealing with local personel as a consumer...not some far away home office...
I am not familier with the exact plant you are looking at....But...If the home is built with quality materials and with good workmanship...both cases read the litereature, go to the plant and visit and inspect the model closely...Do not put huge weight on the sales person words unless they can document what they are saying...I think you should keep them in mind...The only manufacturer I would skip right now is any related to OH..They are in bankruptcy and have not yet formalized a plan for the future..
Thank you. They did have some nice-looking homes on the lot. Sorry 'bout...sm
