Fleetwood VS Champion
Re: Fleetwood VS Champion
This is like asking which is better...Ford or General Mortors..with out mentioning which brand is involved in the comparison..
Large manufactured home companies have as many as 45 plants and scores of brand names..each are built to different standards and specs...A good answer would require substancially more information..

Re: Fleetwood VS Champion
Ok, now, that is not what I wanted to hear...lol. Which one is built better? The Champion costs quite a bit more than the Fleetwood. To me it looks like it is better made but I may be thinking that because the Champion has tape and texture walls. The both have the same exact floor plan we want. The Champion has a 5 year warranty and we were told the Fleetwood is going to a 1 year warranty which to me sounds like they must have too many problems??? It sure is hard to get a straight answer on here, I read tons of threads here last night, Fleetwood was knocked much more than Champion. I don't have time to buy a book like some want us to or I would. Ok, well if anyone can tell me which they think is a better home, Champion or Fleetwood, I would appreciate it. Key factors to make it better to me are construction, durability, flooring and such. Thanks again!!
Re: Fleetwood VS Champion
Again...the car anology...is it a Ford Focus or a Caddillac SST...Or a Ford Jaguar...
Which models of Champion are you refering to...The 5 year warranty sounds like Home of Merit...If so they have excellent warranty service and reputation.;.If it is some other Champion (they have 45 plants and service is run out of each of them)..let us know and maybee you can get a better answer....

Re: Fleetwood VS Champion
OHHHH I gotcha now!! Sorry, guess I should have had my first cup of coffee before replying..hehehe. Ok, We are looking at a Summit Crest Home Model #832 its by Champion and the gal said its a UBC home..which I have no idea what that meant. Its made in Berthoud Colorado. The Fleetwood is The Entertainer, the dealer is ordering if from Waco Texas. I hope I got it right this time. On 2nd cup of coffee so am more awake. Thank you so much rmurray for your patience with me.

Re: Fleetwood VS Champion
We bought the Fleetwood Entertainer model in August ( built in PA ) and love it. We have had a few problems with it, but everything so far has been fixed by fleetwood with one exception. The bedroom windows in the 2 guest bedrooms are bent where the window locks are and they do not close properly. Here is where the problem is Fleetwood says it's the set up crews fault from when they set up the house. The set up crew says it came from fleetwood that way. Fleetwood says broken windows would not have passed it's final QC check.
I would imagine this type of blame game would happen with any other company. I just want the windows fixed since it's gotten very cold here in the northeast and makes the two rooms very drafty.
But, other than that, everything has been wonderful. We love the home, have had no other issues or problems and receive many compliments about the beauty of the home. All of this and paid less than equal models from other companies. Maybe time will tell and we may end up with a rusted out tin can, but so far we love it.
as far as the warranty concern. tell the dealer you will buy it if they include a better warranty. i'm sure they will get you the warranty you want, even if it's a third party warranty

Re: Fleetwood VS Champion
Chris thank you so very much for your reply!! I was SO impressed by that home!! Did you get the tape and texture? I just like the look better, but it is so costly. I think your right about the blame game, usually when someone plays that with me, I mention my attorney getting involved and that will put a stop to it. Stay on top of it, call them everyday until its taken care of. Call the dealer as well. Just don't give up on it. I am a perfectionist and can become a real b!tch when i pay hard earned money for something and its not right. hehehe!! Thanks again for your input!

Re: Fleetwood VS Champion
we bought the fleetwood, not the champion. the champion being the more expensive of the two. I do believe that Fleetwood does offer the tape and texture type of wall that is in the champion home.
Re: Fleetwood VS Champion
Yes they do offer it for around 11,000.00 I was told, I about fell outta my chair. By the time I get the Fleetwood t&t I am about 5,000.00 from buying the Champion. Oh how I hate this deciding!!
Re: Fleetwood VS Champion
Hey, Treasure - BEFORE YOU BUY THE FLEETWOOD ENTERTAINER - check out the almost-identical model made by Cavalier - which, as Mr. Murray will attest, builds a great home. The only difference in the two that I could see is - the huge game room/den at the end of the house is just a little shorter than in the Fleetwood model due to the fact that Cavalier gives you a bonus/laundry room which is on the other side of the fireplace in the den - I hope I'm making sense - but the den is still HUGE, with lots of windows and it has a fireplace and a big screen TV. The bonus room is really nice for ironing, sorting laundry, whatever - or you could use it for something else. The ceilings in the Cavalier are higher and they have crown molding and also molding around the floorboards.
Another difference: in the Fleetwood, the dining area is not carpeted - it's sort of an eat-in kitchen thing, but the Cavalier's model has carpeting so it's more of a formal dining area.
It also has plantation blinds - it's really a nice house - even has oval shaped toilets! And you should see the showers in the Cavalier. It's a bigger stall that's sort of round with a three-piece glass surrounding it. The door opens out - doesn't slide like in most models. The tub is beautiful - huge and deep.
The price for the Cavalier was $65,000 . Don't know where you are, but if you're in the southeast, check it out.
Hey, Mr. Murray, if you're reading this - how much would YOU sell this model for?
