"Must Have" Upgrades in a New Home

Post by Mario » Thu Sep 12, 2002 1:39 pm

I've gathered that the answer to the million dollar question -"Which home manufacturer is the best?" is rather elusive, so then I was wondering what are the best upgrades to get in a home that will prolong its life/re-sell value? 2x6 ext walls?, porcellain sinks?, R-xx insulation values (i.e. R-11 walls, R-33 ceilings etc)?, Higher pitched roofs? Sheet Rock? (You get the picture.) Obviously I'd like to be able to keep the cost below site-built homes. Can anyone give me a list?

Thank You (very much)

Mario, we have just gone through this with our MH and we updgraded to 2x8 in floors and ceilings, had a wrap put on the osb, insulation, upgraded our roof, siding, truss system and things like this. I guess the structure is what is important (floors, roof, walls). All the rest are nice things to have like upgraded carpet, cabinets, and the visual things. I think the things you can't see are quite important. We also wanted to make sure our plumbing and heating system was going to be okay. If there was upgrade for all of that, my husband ordered it. But - I am sure there are other experts on this forum that could give you some better advice. This was only from our experience.
