Things to look for during "Anchoring" of home to your landsite.

I'm in the market for a 1700+ Sqft home. I've done some research that has pointed out that certain dealers/contractors do not anchor a home properly at the customer's landsite. I've spoke to a local dealer and he explained one process of many --his dealership pours concrete strips under the home then proceeds to anchor it accordingly. He also mentioned they always get an "Anchor Permit". Ok, here's my question: What is the best technique to anchor a home? ( or what should I look for / or ask the dealer?)

Hello Mario,

Pouring concrete runners and anchoring into the concrete is best. It sounds like the sales center you spoke with is properly anchoring the home. God bless.

Ok, can you elaborate on "anchoring to the concrete", as far as I know the dealer I spoke with uses anchors that look like augers and they drill those into the ground but do not attach it to the concrete. Should the anchors be attached to the concrete runners?

Hello Mario,

Every state is different. When I set-up my home I used J-Bolts which basically looked like a large J that tied into the re-bar in the concrete. A steel strap was connected to the J-Bolt which raped around the stell I-Beams under my home. Whatever system you use I would make sure the anchor is somehow cemented in.

That all sounds good, but can I ask how they do this on a full basement foundation? Do they put in the appropriate anchors into the top of each wall of the foundation or is there another recommendation to this application?
Thanks, Andy

Hello Andy,

A basement set is totally different from a normall concrete foundation set-up. With a basement set there are steel I-Beams that run the length of the basement and the home is placed on these steel beeam which are typically set into the concrete. I have heard of some people welding the two steel beems together. Others take a steel strap and rap it around both steel I-Beams. My book goes into more detail about this process but I hope you get the idea.
