No Room to Haggle with Tightwads
No Room to Haggle with Tightwads
I need some advice. I've been talking to a certain dealership (don't want to mention which one) about buying a lot WHICH THEY OWN and which would obligate me to buy a manufactured home from them. This is a problem, though, because there are no models on their lot that really GRAB me, yet unrestricted land within a commutable-to-work area is so scarce, that I'm really going to HAVE to go with this arrangement if I want to do anything anytime soon. There IS one model that I could probably live with, but how do I get the dealer to come down a little off the price? It's not as if I can walk away and threaten to go to another dealer - I can't - so he really has me between a rock and a hard place. What really made me mad, though ---- I asked whether a mailbox was included in the deal and he said NO !!!! At first I thought he was kidding, but he wasn't. I can't believe these folks won't budge one dollar off the price of the house and then they don't even want to put up a mailbox. He DID relent a little later and said he would see what he could do, but it really did NOT sit well with me. But the big question is --- what, if anything, can I do to persuade Old Tightwad to knock a little off the price?

Supply and Demand...He has the supply...you have the demand...If you buy the lot..there is nothing you can do...just buy the home and enjoy...

I STILL think the inclusion of a mailbox is not too much to ask, but thanks for that crash course in Economics.

You might want to take the deed restrictions to an attorney...If they quote the lot separate and sell it separate....these are all that count...I am not sure if they can restrict you to a particular builder....What happens if the builder goes out of business before you build??
You are right about the mailbox...It is odd the little things that can make or break a sale..
