Phone & TV Cables

Post by Rick » Mon Aug 19, 2002 12:07 pm

Multiple questions:

1. The Solitaire home we're in the process of buying does not come prewired for phones or any sort of cable TV. The sales rep said we would have to wire it ourselves. Is there any special way I should do this short of drilling a hole in the floor where I want to run the wire.
2. I've been told that mfd homes have large holes underneath where the plumbing and electrical openings feed into the home. Though there is insulation under the floor, I want to seal these holes to ensure no varmits (mice, scorpions, etc.) get into the home. Short of ripping up the bladder, is there an easy way to seal these openings (was thinking about using the spray foam in a can).
3. Since the home we are buying does not come with any sort of stairs, or deck; we're going to need to get decks up quickly. We'd like to not only put up a covered deck over the front and back doors, but also over the side entrance where a small utility area is. This will in all likelihood be the main entrance with high traffic. How can I get a covered deck built on the end of the home that has no existing roof? Also, the counsel I've seen in this forum is to never attach anything to the mobile, including a deck. If this is so, how would the deck be constructed to provide stability and proper roof seal?

I can't answer your question about the jacks, but we just built two porches on our home. The one at the back door was our first. We used deck blocks to put the posts on. This porch is not attached to the house. It seems to be doing well.

For the front porch, we dug holes and poured the quick drying concrete for the posts. It's doing just as well and was just as easy as the deck blocks (an not as expensive.) This porch is not attached to the house either.

I'm looking forward to hearing about the roof part...

Our home which is a Colony came with 1 phone jack and we had them put in two more as an option. We had a front deck built also and we went with the post in cement and it is doing well,we are waiting until next spring to have the roof put on but our contracter says their is no problem at all putting a roof over the deck.
