2"x8" Floor Joists Not Allowed!!!

I preface my comments with, I have Randy's book and have spent quite a bit of time on the internet and at retailers' outlets looking at homes.
I live in No. Calif. and I like Fuqua homes best. I have my eye on the Falcon home in the Eagle Point series. All is going fine except Fuqua apparently can't upgrade the flooring to 2"x8" on 16" centers. Something to do with the overall height of the model during shipping.
My question is whether 2"x6" on 12" centers would provide comparable structural integrity or is there something else I can do. (I understand Fuqua will not substitute the Cresdeck for thicker plywood)
All your suggestions are appreciated.
Grant.

Hello Grant,
I think every 12" or 14" for the floor would work fine. It's probably your only solution. God bless.

I have seen this overall heigth issue just recently starting to rear its head in the last few months...Our big brother in Washington has recently demanded heavier tires on all manufactured homes...Supposedly because of highway safety...Of course there was little documented instances of highway danger...deaths and injuries..because of the old tires...but uncle know best...
These new tires are about 2 to 3 inches taller...For manufacturers with 8' sidewalls there has been some problems with over heigth concerns that has had to change some of the other building requirements...Even though axles are not included in the price of the home..this has also raised the cost of tranportation from the plant to the dealer...Means you get to pay more for your home with no additional benefit...
THANK YOU UNCLE

Thanks for your input. I have heard that changing the on-center distance to 12" or 14" may have a domino effect on other aspects of construction like wall divider support and plumbing drops. Do such changes and possible related problems outweigh the benefits of a stronger floor system?
As to the overall height issue, although the manufacturer cannot give me 2"x8" floor joists, they can give me a 6-12 roof!?! When I questioned this apparently contradictory position, the manufacturer said they can offer the steeper roof because the roof is "hinged", which I take to mean the roof is somehow erected when the home reaches my site. Does anyone know anything about this?

5 to 7 x 12 roofs are built in 2 sections and attached together with a long piano hinge.....When the home reaches the site the inner section is lifted up on its hinge and secured into place....When folded down the roof extends out the side of the home by about 2 feet...This mean because of highway width requirements only 28 foot sectionals can have the hinged roof...
Now...ask about the strength of the assembled hinged roof???...Who knows...maybe some one else can comment on that..
If you go to this site and got to bottom of the page...you will see a 5x12 roofed home with the roof down and some pics of the same home during the set up.
