Older mobile/manufactured home over an apartment?

Well, the current real estate market in my area (western Washington) does not allow any single person with below an astronomical income to own a home. When I was staying in my last apartment, over two years I paid them more than $16,000 in rent, with nothing to show for it at the end. And prices are even higher now. So I was considering getting a low cost used mobile in a park as an alternative to paying $500+ per month for a tiny one bedroom (or less) apartment. On the other hand, an older 3 bedroom mobile will run me about $20,000 after which time I would only have to pay lot space, while a 3 bedroom apartment would burn through that much in less than a year and a half. The thought being able to have pets and not having a landlord tromping through my house four times a year is also appealing. Living in the mobile would just be a temporary measure while I finish college and save for a 'real' home. I know I probably won't be able to sell it for as much as I paid, but at least I wouldn't have nothing. Does a mobile sound like it would be right for me?
