Hello! First of all, I have to say that this site is absolutely wonderful. :) My husband and I live in the greater Seattle area. We currently own a site built home, but in a year we are thinking of buying land, and in 3 years buying a MF home. We have fallen in love with a Silvercrest Manor # 17, which is really expensive (like everything else in this area), and so we want to make the best decision possible. I am planning on buying Randy Eaton's book which will be such a huge help. But I was wondering what you all thought of the Silvercrest line (the Manors specifically). Are they good houses? Is there any problems with them? Is there anything that I should specifically look and ask for when we are ready to buy?

Thanks so much.

Hello Carey,

Silvercrest Homes are an upper end builder. A quality manufacturer with a good reputation. The downside is they are expensive and you really need to shop around.

Thanks Randy. :)

I do have another question for ya though. I do plan on shopping around, but how far is to far? On another thread, one man ordered his MF home out of state and ended up spending 16k less. There are 11 dealers in my state and 13 in Oregon (I am in the greater Seattle area). So how far is too far to haul my house to my land before it costs me a mint, instead of saving me money? And for my last (I am sure it is stupid) question. Would I save on taxes if I bought in Oregon?

Thanks so much!

Hello Carey,

When transporting a manufactured home it is best to keep it as short as possible. I recommend no more then 250 miles away if you can help it. If you purchase a home in Oregon you will still have to pay WA. sales tax. Sales Tax is always based on where the home is going to be placed.
