Dual AC Units?

Post by Richard S » Sat May 11, 2002 10:26 pm

I'm looking at a 28x78 Solitaire which has dual 3.5 ton ac units. The vent systems are not tied together and each system has ducting for half the home. I noticed the thermostats are not tied together either, but they are about 8 feet apart. This home has a ton of windows, 3 in room except for the baths and the 2 kids rooms. Its a Model 990 in case that helps.

1 unit cools 2 bedrooms and kitchen, and Master Bath while the other unit cools the family room, den, dining, and master bedroom. Both inlets to the evaporators are side by side in the utility room.

Does anyone out there own a home with this set up? Does it work? I figured that the thermostats would be tied together to keep the units from fighting each other.
If they had seperate returns and the thermostats were in different areas I could see the advantage as far as different temp settings in different rooms.

I appreciate all input.
