MH and Propane Gas

Post by Pickles » Sat May 11, 2002 7:42 pm

I'm thinking about buying a one-year old m-h on 3 acres that has propane gas. Can somebody explain how the gas is delivered and how it's used? I'm a city girl - thanks

Propane is manufactured gas..delivered to your home by truck and placed in and stored in a tank for you to use when needed....Even a city girl has seen a propane tank on a BBQ grill...One for the whole home is just like it but much larger...

Watch out though, your propane tends to run out at REALLY bad times. :)
(like when we had a cold crunch and woke up to a 40 degree house because the gas gave out over the night.) Also, using a gas stove makes me super nervous.

Well, isn't there some kind of gauge that lets you know when the gas is running low so you can refill it before it's totally empty?

Hi we just bought a new doublewide and our furnace, hot water heater and cook stove are all LP Gas.If you have a big enough tank and have monthly deliveries you will not run out of gas,i am also a cook by trade and i would not use anything but gas to cook with.

Thanks for the good news but how expensive is propane, and do you have to be home when the delivery truck comes?

(Our tank doesn't have a gage, fwiw)

We are renting a maybe 1100 sqft site built home with a 500 gallon tank. I've seen prices from $1.12 to $1.52 per gallon. We normally just say "give us $200 worth". We've had to do that twice since we moved there last August, and once was probably because I kept it 70 degrees during a snow-in and used all the fuel up. I now know how to manage the gas in the house.

We use propane in our home in Nebraska. The price the last 3 years has varied between .57 and $1.19 per gallon, the average probably in the high 60's to low 70's. Around here the season seems to dictate prices. Lower prices in late spring, early summer. Propane tanks do come with a gauge, after awhile you get accustomed to knowing when you need to order more gas, so running out shouldn't be an issue. Some propane suppliers have programs where they top off your tank periodically, also there are programs where you can lock in a price for a period of time, usually at the beginning of fall or late summer. They will deliver around here whether you are home or not, like other things it depends on your credit/policy of supplier i.e. do they require you to pay up front or do they bill you. You can either purchase your tank, or lease it, sorry can't give you a price on that.

Hope this helps!
